Now that the top end disassembly is complete it is time to insect the parts to find out what needs to be replaced. I usually take notes during the disassembly of parts that need replacement based upon a visual inspection. If you don't what parts need inspection just follow the service manual. In this case I suspected that the head gasket had failed and I confirmed this during the disassembly. See pics and caption below for some of the items I inspected.

Using a micrometer to measure the camshaft lobes

Using feeler gauges to check the piston to cylinder clearance

This cylinder will need to be honed to clean it up.

Using a dial caliper to measure valve stem diameter and valve spring free length.
